ARE LEADERS BORN OR RAISED
The
definition of leadership is beyond the lecture of gathered facts in
conferences, office settings and other mediums.
Is
everyone called to be a Leader?
What
if somebody never realizes he is a leader?
If
you pick the right people and give them the right opportunity to spread their
wings
and put compensation as a carrier behind it; you almost don’t have to
manage
them.” Jack Welsh
Is
there anything like a ‘born leader’?
Well
my submission may overrule this long celebrated cliché – “I am a Born Leader”
Leaders
are not given birth to so to speak but
are raised. The efficacy from the intuition of “ A born Leader” is the
underlying fact that every human being
is embedded with greatness.
The
challenge in the continent of Africa is that we attribute greatness to
leadership. There are great names but there is no iota of leadership traits in
some people. Leadership is the motherboard of greatness. It is the
misappropriation of this notion that is why ‘rich personalities’ are given government
appointments with no regard of their competence.
This
little piece seeks to disabuse the mindset of ‘I am a Born Leader’ syndrome.
This notion has made many people lay by without much efforts to take
responsibilities to reach out their world with their potentials.
There
are several schools of thought about the concept of leadership.
Leaders
have a vision and a sense of mission that lifts up and inspires men and women
to help achieve that mission Brian Tracy.
While
personal maturity may mean being able to see beyond yourself,
leadership
maturity means considering others before yourself. John C. Maxwell
Whoever
wants to be a leader has to develop himself or herself with inbuilt capacity to
handle the task ahead. You cannot claim to be a leader if you are shallow, not
current and insight in handling responsibilities with very lower standards.
To be
a leader, you do not talk the lead, rather you take the lead to accomplish the
set targets.
Leadership
is not occupying a seat but accomplishing a feat of repute.
Dear
leader permit me to ask you a question. If you are troubled by your answer then
kindly redefine your path.
When
your name is mentioned without any title what comes into the minds of people?
Stop
claiming ‘ I am a born doctor, a born engineer, a born pilot, etc’ and take
responsibility to build your capacity to whatsoever you desire.
If
you do not take that personal responsibility you will continually be day
dreaming, wondering in wonderland and dying without achieving anything in life.
The
leadership story of Africa is changing soon. Lets be more responsible than ever
before to take our economies onto the world stage.
